Trekking in Nepal can be undertaken throughout the year depending on the regions. A year can be divided into four different seasons in Nepal and each season has its distinct attractions to offer. The trekking seasons in Nepal can be classified as below:-
Autumn (September – November):
Autumn is considered as the best trekking season in Nepal as it offers excellent weather and tantalizing mountain views. Temperature is usually moderate during this period making it a good time for any trek. The sky is generally clear with outstanding views. This is also the season of festivals as the major festivals like Dashain and Tihar fall in this season.
Winter (December – February):
Winter season in Nepal is noted for occasional snowfall and the air itself can be quite cold at higher elevations. Hence it is ideal for trekking at lower elevations, generally below 3000 meters. If you are looking for suitable and incredible scenery, this is a great time to trek in lower elevations. However, this is a great season for those who do not mind cold weather in the Himalayas as the mountain peaks are more clearly visible in this season.
Spring (March – May):
Spring is the perfect time for trekking in the Himalayas. Different varieties of wild flowers, most notably the rhododendrons, make the hillside a haunting paradise during this season. It is mildly warm at lower elevations and at higher elevation the mountain views are excellent and temperature is quite moderate.
Summer (June – August):
Summer in Nepal is marked with the rainy season. It is the favorite season to trek in the rain shadow areas like Upper Mustang, Dolpo and Kailash. This season is also recommended for forest researchers and botanist as the higher valleys and meadows blossom with flowers and lush vegetation. Despite being the monsoon season, the regular city, cultural and heritage tours offer you a warm and wet looks to admire.
