Tourist Visa Information

Most foreign nationals require a tourist visa to enter Nepal, except for Indian citizens. Visitors from most other countries can easily obtain a Visa on Arrival at Kathmandu Airport or designated land border entry points. 

Alternatively, you can also apply for a tourist visa in advance through a Nepalese Embassy or Consulate in your home country.

Gratis/Free Visa:

A tourist visa is issued free of charge to the following eligible travelers:

  • Indian citizens (visa not required)
  • Chinese nationals
  • SAARC country nationals (except Afghanistan) for their first visit in a visa year, valid for up to 30 days
  • Children below 10 years of age (except U.S. citizens)
  • Other categories as specified by the Department of Immigration   

Tourist Visa Extension:

Tourist visa can be extended for a maximum period of 150 days in a single visa year (January- December).

  • Minimum extension: 15 days
  • First 15 days: USD 45
  • Additional days: USD 3 per day

Not Eligible for Visa on Arrival

Nationals from Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan and Syria will need to obtain a visa from Nepal Embassies or Diplomatic Missions in their respective countries. They are not eligible for a visa on arrival at the immigration entry points of Nepal.

Important Information

  • Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your date of arrival.
  • Tourist visas are valid from the date of entry into Nepal.
  • If you receive your visa from a Nepalese Embassy or Consulate, you must enter Nepal within six months of the visa issue date.
  • Visa fees are subject to change without prior notice by the Government of Nepal.
